Would you like to do something different? Want to get some exercise at the same time? Then reserve space now for a night at one of the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) huts, or bigger lodges. Invite your friends for a memorable experience in the mountains and lakes regions of the northeast.
You can explore the White Mountains and lakes region of New Hampshire, the Moosehead Lake area in Maine, and the Delaware Water Gap in New Jersey. For full details, go to www.outdoors.org If you are thinking of viewing colorful foliage this fall, you need to reserve now.
You will get a cooked evening meal–don’t be late–and a morning breakfast at the smaller huts; lunch is on your own. If you’d like a gentle hike with woodsy views that also features a scenic waterfall right at the hut, then Zealand Falls Hut in New Hampshire’s White Mountains is perfect. You won’t be able to shower, and the single, closely-stacked bunks (first come, first served) in larger rustic rooms won’t match your comfortable bed at home (lights out at 9 p.m.), but the mountain air and camaraderie make up for that.
The pictures show my wife, Nancy, my in-laws, and friends on our way to Mizpah Spring Hut. This hut, if you are hiking the Appalachian Trail north, is on the way to the presidential range, which includes Mt. Washington. Turn your cell phones off, put your hiking shoes on, and get ready for an outdoor adventure.
Happy trails!
I can’t get enough of all the pictures Dad. Great Blog!!

Thanks, Chris. The mountains bring back many fond memories. Even the one of Steve handcuffing me to the picnic table!
